Leadership of Pope Francis
Pope Francis inspires us by modelling excellent leadership. Fr Noel Connolly writes that leaders who exemplify leadership like the Pope have three characteristics:
1. They have a vision that inspires and gives a sense of mission.
2. They build learning and discerning communities.
3. They help make meaning in transitional and crisis times and prepare people for the future.
Fr Michael Mason describes the Pope's style of leadership as interventionist. He says 'Pope Francis ... takes particular issues and does something with them that is understandable; that is appealing; that is reportable ... that is instantly all over the world' (Kairos, 22 June 2014, p.11). We have the benefit of our Marist communities to assist us with discerning and creative leadership.

Marist Jubilees
Each year Marist Brothers celebrate the moment in their lives when they took the decision to become Brothers. For many of us, this occurred when we received the religious habit, often on the second of July, traditionally the feast of the visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. There is a sense of mission in Mary's selfless journey across the hills to be with Elizabeth, a reminder to each of us who take up a similar mission. With the advent of lay Marists, we look forward to celebrating with you the moment when you first made a commitment to Marist life and mission. Together we have an exciting future responding to a world that is always ready for spiritual accompaniment.
