Discovering Leadership
Leadership proved to be an energising topic as 12 newly appointed staff lead learners at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College and I gathered at the Traeger campus on the 3rd and 4th March, 2015 for our Emerging Leaders' Seminar. Fortunately the College's air conditioning was working well as Alice Springs turned on two nearly 40° days for our time together.
We began by delving into recent leadership literature on topics as varied as defining leadership, Australian leadership, leading teams, exemplary leadership and Marist leadership. We then analysed our own way of leading in the light of these forms of leadership. Sharing our own beliefs proved to be an important part of our seminar as we evaluated the work of these authors against our own beliefs and experiences.
We concluded by forming some individual goals for our personal leadership for the next 12 weeks. Then we will return to continue our reflections on contemporary leadership and to assess the progress we are making in developing our own personal leadership skills.
